Young Shoppers Cite Cooking Skills

Consumers age 24-34 are more likely to describe their cooking skills as very good than any other age group, although slightly older consumers feel their skills in the kitchen are excellent, according to research from NPD Group, Chicago. The firms Kitchen Audit 2011 the seventh edition of a national survey conducted every three years also asked consumers what products, utensils and appliances they had on hand to get a sense of how Americans stock their pantries, and asked about recipe use to gauge what it is people are doing with those ingredients and equipment. Among the findings: A cookbook owned for two years or more is the top source for recipes. Food manufacturers and others use the Kitchen Audit for product development and recipe development, said Dori Hickey, director of product management at NPD.
